Re: Running Hot over 185-Degree F at heads Changed water pump. Next?
His engine is a loop charged engine for sure, (seen it in another thread)got the square bubble back as well.
make sure the thermostats are not sticking closed position.
tell tale dont mean its getting water moving around the water jackets,it just means you have water getting
to the exhaust housing, this would also explain your extremely high pressure tell tale.
could be blocked water passages in the block or heads as well, but stats are the easy ones first to check.
my friend had water pouring out the exhaust holes on his 1977 140hp crossflow v4, but no water was getting out the left bank at all.
ran with hose off the bottom left bank and it stayed cool, proving the stats were shut.
when they came off it turned out that the left side were stuck shut and the right side stuck open.
Thermostats on yours are at the top of each cylinderhead and are easy to replace, they are called VERNATHERM, but are
just tiny little thermostats.
is this both sides or just the left bank staying hot ?
temp should be around 148 to 160 at idle then about 125 -140 when running WOT.
YOUR 180 degree F is definitely too hot for sure.
you can just test them in a cup of boiling water and watch at what temp they go back in.
on these VERNATHERM things the center pin that pops forward and backwards with heat etc should be loose,so be carefull of losing it.
are you getting any water from the exhaust holes under the rear of the cowling ? this should be very little at idle
and a good spray when revved up to around 4,000 rpm.
hope this helps
