Running hot?

Mercruser 5.0 1987 alpha one
It is running hot at idel on the hose.everything is new as water pump and ect goes.when I idel it up it cools down.could it be not getting enough water?

Ayuh,.... That would be My guess,.... The muffs should be bleedin' water, Profusely, at idle,...

Did ya change just the impeller, or the whole thing, housin's 'n All,..??

Yes I replaced everything in the lower foot that had to do with running hot.when I got the boat it was ate up.the thermostat was missing too. So I fixed the foot water pump housing ect then ran it for awhile and then I replaces the thermostat and now I'm running hot if it idles for 4 mins.but cools when I idle it up.

Ayuh,.... Did ya back flush the line from the t-stat housin', back to the lower unit,..??

Did ya find, 'n account for ALL the missin' pieces of the old impeller,..??
