Follow up to Smoking like crazy!
THANKS VERY MUCH TO ALL OF YOU!
The 93 Evinrude engine is VRO. I was told by a dealer to double oil! Is this a good thing to put Oil in the Gas and VRO?
Cranked well last night, ran and idled good for about 15 to 20 minutes. I do believe it was burn off!
NOW......At this time...I am still using VRO....
1. The engine is not overheating.....RPM's not governerned by S.L.O.W.
2. Oil seems to be entering through VRO. Didn't do pulse test but it looks good.
3. As soon as the key is turned to the on position the shrill begins and will not stop.
The whole time the engine ran the shrill would not stop. If a defective warning button what can I do!
I am a hands on do it yourselfer until I have to take a back seat.
I did put some duct tape over it so neighbors wouldn't complain about shrill and motor noise.
Don't mind the motor noise....music to my ears!
Again....doesn't seem to be overheating.
Oil must be there? Right. It is running.
Question/ If I double oil and the shrill stops, should I then scrap the VRO.
I believe a New oil pump exceeds 250.00....Does that sound about right?

Reid
Do not start a new post on the same subject as it confuses everyone. Stay in the same original post, so everyone can see what's been going on. The dealer recommend adding oil to the Gas to be sure the VRO is working. Once that it is verified, you can delete the mixture in the fuel Tank, and run VRO only. But run at least a Tank of Gas with the oil in it to Verify. Mark the oil Tank level with a Marker and make sure it drops as you boat. If all checks out, check the Low Oil Senser in the Tank. They do go bad, and will keep the horn beeping. Does you horn stay on or does it Beep,Beep,Beep? If it stops after you double the oil, get rid of the VRO and mix your own in the Tank!! Do you get the Horn when the engine is cold and you just turn on the key? If it's a steady sound, could be overheat sensor going bad. More info please!

Thanks...yes I see where it can be confusing.

Q: Does you horn stay on or does it Beep,Beep,Beep?
A: THE HORN STAYS ON....STARTS AS SOON AS KEY IS TURNED EVEN BEFORE CRANKING!

If it stops after you double the oil, get rid of the VRO and mix your own in the Tank!!
SO DOUBLE OILING WILL NOT HURT THE ENGINE?

Q: Do you get the Horn when the engine is cold and you just turn on the key?
A: YES.....THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS

Q: If it's a steady sound, could be overheat sensor going bad.
A: ARE THESE THINGS THAT CAN BE REPLACED WITHOUT TAKING THE ENGINE APART?

There must be a sensor in the oil container.....Is this correct?
I have ordered a manual for that engine. Right now I am at the mercy of the info that came with the boat....and some limited knowledge from boating over a decade ago. This forum is a tremendous help!

Trace wires from remote oil tank, disconnect at engine, if horn still sounds, replace horn.

Clanton, why would doubling the oil shut the horn up? ODD???

To answer a couple of your questions, No it will not hurt to double the oil and all these parts can be replaced very simply. Just have to find out which one it is!! If "Clanton's" advice does not do it, disconnect the wire from the Temp. sensor. See if that shuts it up!

First......Warning horn still will not stop. Simply turning the key on, no turn of engine, and it shrills the high seas. The wires from the oil reservior seem to vanish under the engine or I just am not looking good enough. A little timid of displacing all the tubing and lines I guess.
Second.....how hard is it to torque the cylinder heads?
Third......The red arrow behind the stem where fuel cleaner is sprayed is where when on or off?
In other words where should it be to spray in cleaner or does it matter?
Fourth.....Who has the best price on SS props?
Thanks again,
Reid
