Is there a safe way to get enough water through my 275 to keep it cool enough to work on without putting it in the lake?

Pardon my ignorance, but what are muffs and where can I get them?

The "muffs" that I found do not fit very snug over the inlets and I don't seem to be getting any water through the engine. Most of the water runs out of the bottom of the final drive. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx,
Dave

Take your boat and go to your local Volvo dealer and have them show you how it's done. Things liike water pressure, type of muffs, how they are positioned and plugging the secondary hole, all comes into play. If you do it wrong, you replace impellers and possibly damage your engine.
I wouldn't for a minute try to describe EXACTLY how to run on muffs. That is a little over the top.

What about taking a 55 gallon barrel, cutting it down to size and tilting your outdrive into that...? Thats what I've done and it works great
