I was wondering, do the larger motors ( over 100 hp) not like running on cuffs, do they prefer running in tanks for better flow?

Re: running on cuffs

All sizes will run on the 'muffs' of the correct design for a particular motor series.

the drawbacks are;

1 less exhaust back-pressure with the motor leg out of the water, carb idle mixture adjustments can often be less than perfect

2 'city' water pressure can mask water pump/impeller problems by 'pressurizing' the water pump

3 muffs cannot supply enough water for speeds much above an idle

Muffs are another tool in the owner/mechanic's endeavor to maintain/repair an engine, each tool has a specific perpose, the muffs are to enable us to provide cooling water in order to start and idle and engine. Period.
