I never have.My boat has a 90 gallon tank.New gauge and new sender that a spent a day installing and getting it set right. When it shows empty i have about 3 to 4 inches of fuel in the tank.
When it hits a half of tank i fill up.It takes usually about 40 gallons.
So i figure when it shows empty i still have at least 10 gallons.
Have never run it much below the 1/2 mark.

I don't understand why boats don't have a reserve petcock for the last 5-10 gallons. It would make a lot of sense to me. Life would be a lot easier for those of us with built in fuel tanks and floating gauges that leave a lot to the imagination. I miss the days of going back and picking up the 6 gallon portable tank to see how much was left.:D I always ran dual 6 gal portables so, it was easy to figure when i was 1/2 way "full or empty" and it was time to turn back.

Anyhow, I have run out 1x and it was with a new boat I had never run before. The gauge wasn't accurate at all and I should have made it back no problem. With that I still ended up about 1/2 mile short.

Not yet. I have a 38 gal tank. Lowest I ever came in with was a 1/4 tank after a long day on Green Bay and a slow ride in 3-4' waves.
