I beleive i am running rich on my 1980 johnsons V4 115

I recently got it running and have been doing some test runs on the lake,
I noticed that it smelled a little rich, and plenty of smoke comes out of the exhaust while in the water.
Water pumps are running fine, so i don't think it's an overheating issue.

Not too literate with boat motors but i've learned alot restoring this boat and motor.
Is this normal? for it to be like this?
It's also hard to keep the motor running while in idle on the water..
It stays on and idles just fine when the watermuffs are on though... so i am not sure how to go about adjusting this..

Any help would be appreciated

If this helps :
I mix gas 100:1
plugs are new
motor has not been decarbed

THE CORRECT MIXTURE IS 50:1. One pint per six gallons.

If you have not rebuilt the carbs, it's probably time.

Those engines run a little "fat" anyway. Better slightly rich than lean.

Get yourself a manual and do the "synch. and link" operation.
