running rich???

just been out on my boat for the first time this season with a 1993 90hp 3stroke merc, ive noticed that on the stern of the boat theres loads of black marks, im assuming its from the exhaust gases, now does this mean its running rich??? the boat seems to run fine at idle and at wot (quite smokey on start up)

how do i check if its right

First time out... Did you run it on the hose before putting it in the water just to see if she would run? If not, does the smoke clear up after a bringing the boat up to speed and then not smoke the rest of the day?

The symptoms are all typical of over choking (flooding) during the first startup. I did the same thing Saturday morning at "O" dark thirty.. It has it's benefits, I cleared the dock out and had it all to myself for about 1/2 hour.

I had the nasty oil stain on the back of my boat and down the back of my mid. It washes off.
