Sorry your post was RUNNING TEMP. You will have to start another thread as IDLING TEMP.

Just kidding, it should run in the same range if your thermostat is operating properly.

Re: running temp?

My engine temp stays at 160, I can idle for an hour or pull wot across the lake and the temp maintains 160.

Closed cooling can/should be over 160 degrees..salt water cooling should be lower, as the salt will crystalize if the temp is too high. I run 180 on my closed cooling small block fords.

The hotter the engine runs, the better it is for power and longevity. That's why factory stuff is a minimum of 195 degrees.

Re: running temp?

OMCs and most Volvos came with a 160 stat raw water cooled...mine runs between 160-170...and at these temps, I've never had build up in any part of the engine I've been able to see (salt water). I put in a new thermostat each season and never see built up in the intake manifold or the thermo housing...
