Re: running temp

86 4.3 always ran at 160 I just changed thermostat with a 160 temp. now gauge reads 170 while running. 160 is what you want for ideal temp...

Re: running temp

i am thinking 160 is normal my guage runs 175. if you get real worried take a heat gun and shoot the engine while your gauge reads 180 and see if its really 180 or if your sender/gauge is off. cobra water impellor is insanely easy to look at 6 bolts maybe 3-4 minuites tops because you have to wait for the tilt/trim to lower the motor. after that i'd look to the thermostat replace it and see where your running then.

i did everything that i could do at this point. i did put the new thermostat in. i even flush out all the hoses to make sure nothing was trap in side. fill the hose with water put them back on. ran the boat for 10 mins then the temp went to 180 then started to go higher. so i turn it off . then after 5 min i try it again and it over heated again. i wasnt getting any water into the impeller on top of the drive. but i have water comeing out of the bottom. is there a nothing pump in the lower unit that could be causeing this not to push the water up into the water houseing that can make it over heat. i will not stop intill this is fix

Re: running temp

You have changed your impeller recently right?

You use your boat in saltwater? If so, you may have a clogged manifold/riser.
