I have a 1990 Mariner, 150hp, as I'm moving slowly, into the harbor, I get a strong smell of gas, like the engine is runnig rich. What should I look for, and what should I do to correct the problem. It is carb Adjustments or something else

Re: RUNNING TOO RICH/LEAN

Have you done a visual inspection around the carbs (is the engine carburetated) and fuel line coming out of the fuel pump? If no leaks, then I don't think you should be too concerned. I own a 97' 150 Hp carbed Merc and the fumes at trolling speeds are quite heavy. Does the engine run ok on the other side of idle up to WOT ? If so, I would just push on and push hard! Engines with EFI burn MUCH cleaner, but they cost alot more too!
