I have a 1987 suzuki 115, and when in the water, the engine shoots a nice stream of water from the side hole (not sure of technical name), but when on muffs attached to my garden hose on full I do not get a stream of water. I usually shut it down after about 15 seconds, I don't want to harm the engine. Should I let it run longer to get the stream? It would be nice to flush it with freshwater after being on the salt all day.
Thanks
ED

On muffs, you will never get the same pressure as in water, also not sure about the 115s but my 150 has an intake underneath the anti-ventalation plate. I have rigged another muff, specifically for that intake. This intake if you have one is located right above the prop on the AV plate.

Some muffs feed only one side of the ears while more expensive ones feed both sides. Which type do you have? Makes a difference. FRED

just a thought..... a connector on your hose that has a stop valve in it DOES affect the flow of volume of water!!!!....best to get a connector that doesnt have a stop valve!!!........i noticed this problem when connecting my water blaster.....the water blaster was trying to draw more water than the stop connect would allow to pass.....the same would be for outboard water pumps!!!....i changed to a free flow connector and BINGO problem gone!!!......if this dont help then check flow at your water tap.:)

I have the muffs that feed water from both sides, and I also have the extra intake that gsyfishy mentions. What type of extra muff can I rig on this second intake? Anyone have any pics?
Thanks

I just got a cheap one sided feed muff, it has the metal holder, which I have bent the one side to fit it to the mid section. The plastic ones wont work, you need the stiff metal kind. Then I got a three-way hose connector, cut two three foot pieces and put female ends on them, this way I only need to connect one hose to it.

I work with these motors frequently. They dont like Muffs!
You can never be sure if its the pump thats failing. Put her in a tub preferably one deep enough to bring the water level above the pump and avoid any overheat issues.

WalMarts have a large rectangular container for around $10.00 that you can use to flush motor. I have one, raise motor, place tube under, lower motor, fill with water.
Run engine as you please. The only trouble I have is
dumping the container and getting my shoes wet.
