6cyl mercruser lower end won't move

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

please if someone could answer this question i would be fore ever in your debt.
i have a 1980 6cyl mercruser inboard which i just got and i don't know much about an inboard but it starts and runs good except the prop won't spin (i filled the lower end with lube) and the trim won't move what could be wrong

Re: runs but dosn't move

a LOT of possibilities with that description.

Trim -- low/out of fluid? Possibly a leak?

No prop response -- broken control cable? broken shift cable? poorly adjusted cables? worn/damaged gears?

Re: runs but dosn't move

hum,
a spun prop hub,
a stirpped coupler,
broken internal drive parts

those would be the initial suspects

Re: runs but dosn't move

sorry not much of a discription. motor runs and reves up there is no grinding or and detected bad noise it's like the lower end isn't connected except the prop is solid it won't turn (by hand?). i was wondering does this boat (19' searay) have a transmission if so does it work on linkage or vacuum or fluid? if fluid where do i check it at and where do i fill it at? if vacuum could dry rotted hoses stop it from working? if linkage where do i find it? also as for the trim i can hear the motor working when you hit eather of the buttons but nothing moves? I found a empty tube of trim/power stearing fluid in the boat where does that go? sorry for sounding so lost (pretty bad for someone who spent 13yrs. in the navy) but a searay is nothing like what we had on ship i.e. motor whale boat or LCPL or LCVP i could really use all your help
Thank you

Thanks Bond-O
that helped for the trim and got me alot closer to finding the cause of no prop function. i belive it to be in the cableing? as far as i can tell there are 2 cables going to the lower end one is throttle the other ingages the gear? am i on the right track?

There's the Cables from the controller to the motor,.........
And the Lower Shift Cable from there, to the Outdrive...........

That's 3 Cables........
