I have a 1995 Evinrude Oceanpro 200 HP outboard and the smoke that comes out of it at low speeds will make you pass out. Here's what I've done so far...

At the shop: replaced the VRO pump, rebuilt the 6 carbs., and found and repaired any air leaks in the fuel line.

Any other suggestions because it's rather intoxicating. Other than that, she runs nicely.

The oil pump (its not a VRO pump) will pump extra oil if the syatem sences a fuel restriction.

What kind of oil and spark plugs?

I was under the impression that the VRO pump doubles as an oil and fuel pump. I'm using Champion plugs and TCW-3 oil in its reservior. One other thing, I decarbonized the engine without replacing the plugs. I'll be doing that this weekend. Maybe this will make some difference?

What oil usage are you getting. If over 65:1 then you've got an oil pump problem.

Interesting enough I ran the engine on an external premixed tank of gas and disconnected/blocked the VRO and had the same outcome. Does white smoke mean burning oil? Maybe a faulty VRO? Is this possible?

white smoke is more likely steam or water mixed with hydrocarbons or carbon monoxide... oil is generally blue .. is one plug cleaner than the others?

Your pump will pump fuel and oil. It pumps oil at a steady (more or less) rate rather than a variable rate like a VRO pump.

Try new plugs. After a decarb they can become fouled -- not unusual.

Interesting yet confusing... The sticker on my outboard states the spark plug I should be using is a QL78YC and the OMC service manual states the recommended plug is a QL77JC4.

Which is correct? 1995 Evinrude 200HP Oceanpro.

Either will work and work well. Personally I prefer the cooler 77's.

You have to look at your overall set up and intended usage lots of trolling etc). Especially if you are in a situation where you have added combustion temps. Like lugging or youre using something other than the recommended fuel (87 octane).

I have 225 ocean runners and had white smoke coming out or at least more smoke than the other. I pulled the plugs replaced 3 of 6 that were the worst (fouling)then brushed and re gapped the rest and the smoke went back to normal.
