runs out of water not in water

Finally fixed all problems . . . I thought.<br />in a bucket my merc 79-80 7.5hp runs great. Today i put in in the lake and it kept stalling at idl. It would not even stay running if i gave it gas.<br />it would continue runining if i pumped the bulb.<br /><br />when I pulled it out of water it started and ran fine(dry at ramp).<br /><br />Please help<br /><br />Thanks<br />james

usually when you have to pujmp the primer bulb your fuel pump is out. Or your idle screw setting is incorrect and you were just primimg s hard it was blowing the needle off the seat and allowing fuel to enter the car through the main emulsion tube. A small bucket does not provide enough back pressure on the exhaust to set the carb correctly. it needs to be done on the boat.
