Runs with key at "start" not at run

So boat roars along at start, but when I let the key back it dies. I know I need to trace down the purple wire and look for corrosion/break/etc.

Quick question? At start I'm guessing I should see 12+ at the coil. What about at run, should it still have 12, or is there a resister wire pulling it down to 6-8 or something. Also, what else does that purple wire pass through. I already checked the ignition switch and bypassed the tether switch. What else does that wire pass through or link to that could be acting up (oil pressure switch maybe).

I am going to start by testing voltage down the line and at the coil, but I can almost bet I'm going to see low voltage at the coil. If so I'll run a jumper off the battery to verify, and if that is the case, just wondering what all I need to check.

Yes, you should have battery voltage at the purple wire on the coil with the key in the run position. You should also have voltage at the purple wire on the alternator.
After the ignition switch and kill switch the only thing left is the round harness connector on the engine.

Cool thanks for the reply. Specifically though, is there a certain voltage I should be looking for at the coil while in the run position? should it be 12, or reduced to something lower?
