Hope you can read russian

My question about the whole thing is why wasn't this one detected? We know exactly where the one that is going to miss today is and the size, 150'. But an estimated 10 ton chunk of rock goes completely under the radar? I know all this detection business is infant science. Is Bruce Willis on retainer just in case the big one shows up?
Estimated size for the one over Russia= kitchen table+-
That's the first size I've seen. Thanks. I did read that it made a six foot crater so it couldn't have been all that big after some burned off.
I should have tossed in a few smilies in my first post.
The panic and confusion that followed Friday's meteorite crash quickly gave way to typical Russian black humor and entrepreneurial instincts.
Several people smashed in the windows of their houses in the hopes of receiving compensation, the RIA Novosti news agency reported.
Others quickly took to the Internet and put what they said were meteorite fragments up for sale.
One of the most popular jokes was that the meteorite was supposed to fall on Dec. 21 last year — when many believed the Mayan calendar predicted the end of the world — but was delivered late by Russia's notoriously inefficient postal service.
Vladimir Zhirinovsky, a nationalist leader noted for his vehement statements, blamed the Americans.
"It's not meteors falling. It's the test of a new weapon by the Americans," the RIA Novosti news agency quoted him as saying.
The only difference between the American people and the Russian people is they both think the other is the enemy.
Glad it did not hit in a populated aria as that could have been messy.
"Russian Meteor this is a first"

I read that these things hit daily but usually land in the ocean.
I've read they strike with a frequency of 100 times per year.
I also believe (could be wrong) that by definition, a meteor never strikes the earth. If a meteor manages to survive getting through our atmosphere, it becomes a meteorite. Is that correct??
