Re: Rust-Oleum Marine topside paint???

I have been severely disappointed with every rust-oleum product I've bought this year. They must have changed their formula or something, because they used to be a lot better than they are now.

Either way, I wouldn't trust it. Just my 2 cents, but I'd get non-boating specific paint before using another rust-o paint product again.

Re: Rust-Oleum Marine topside paint???

It's still an alkyd enamel, just like regular Rustoleum (which isn't a bad thing, Interlux's "Premium Yacht Paint" is also an alkyd enamel).

Lots of people have used Rustoleum, some have had good results, some bad. I've heard that it's not as glossy as the 1 and 2 stage polyurethanes, but unlike the poly's, it can be wet sanded & buffed and look pretty slick (I've done this w/ motorcycle tanks).

I've been doing lots of reading, and Rustoleum would be my second choice now for my jet ski (original paint was DuPont Imron - 2 stage poly). I will be using Benjamin Moore's M22 Industrial Urethane Enamel, a single stage polyurethane similar to Interlux's Brightsides. I've read lots of others have used it and have had good results. It contains more poly than Interlux's Brightside (via MSDS sheets), and it's fully tintable at any Benjamin Moore store. Best of all, it's around $30 a gallon. I'll post my results in a few weeks (haven't started yet).

Thinking now about this guy's method. Check out what this guy did with rustolium. http://www.rickwrench.com/index79master.htm?http://www.rickwrench.com/50dollarpaint.html

Whats alkyd enamel anyways? Rustolium i thought was oil based! Im just looking for a cheap way to paint my boat and it not look too bad. I bet im going to end up using eather pettit easypoxy or brightsides but id like to save some money and still be able to see my self in the side of my boat. Thanks guys. And check out what that guy did with that rustolium!
