Left a pair of pliers in the newly replaced carpet in my boat. Rained that night. Went out of town the next day. Well long story short, I have a plier shaped rust stain in the carpet. <br /><br />Any ideas on how to remove it?

Sounds crazy, but the best I've found is soap-n-water.....let it soak, and work it out with a little elbow grease.<br />Getting the "rust-spot" wet again, loosens the stain in the same fassion it got there......I've also found a shop-vac works best to rinse/remove water as not to work the loose stain material "in"........hope this helps..... :)

Wikelam, there are products at the marine store just for that.there is a small blue jar that is called fiberglass stain remover that will work It is a cream that you have to rinse when done.I purchased a liquid in a boating store in Fla. that works on contact. It is called "rust away"I also had a rust stain on carpet and it worked without even me touching it.There are also products in kmart housecleaner section for hard water stains.CLR is the name. You can also try white vinegar and baking soda mixed into a paste and applied with a toothbrush.Let us know which worked.Charlie p.s. DONT use any of the marine products that are for rust stains AND bottom cleaning. They may contain acid whih is great for boat bottoms but will eat your carpet.

if those methods don't work....<br />"wink" small brown bottle, they sell it at walmart and hardware stores here, excellent rust remover. Used it on the bathroom tile once that was incredibly stained from hard water/rust.<br /><br />it's about $4-5 for about a 6oz bottle, but it's good stuff. <br /><br />bottle says it can be used in laundry, so I assume it would be ok for carpet.... BUT<br />(try on carpet scrap first to make sure it doesn't stain)

Most any of the products which actually work will contain an acid, probably oxalic acid. There's worse stuff to handle but be careful to follow directions and wear eye and hand protection. Rinse thoroughly afterward.
