Hi guys I have a 1973 140hp mecrusier engine<br />that cam with my boat.<br />The problem is that the prvious owner had taken the engine apart and let it out in the wether.<br />the haed was off and sitting inthe boat.<br />I'm going to have the head checked<br />theres no water in the oil only a little rust in the cylders my question is do you think it can be saved <br />I'm going to start disasembly this week end <br />Now Ive worked on alot of engines so I know what to look for on the engine but I don't know what to check on the manifolds any tips . :confused:

If you think there is a problem with the manifold, take the elbow off, make a plate to fit over the exhaust opening with a hole drilled in the center to vent the exhaust chamber and with a new gasket cover it, plug the water intake with something and pump air into the drain (about 15 lbs. I use my lower unit tester)if it holds pressure its good. Look the elbow over good, then turn it upside down and carefully fill the water jacket with fuel oil, if it doesn't leak into the exhaust chamber your good to go--Bob

Bad news I found a crack :eek: in the manifold in the water jacket :(

the block is in good shape no rust in oil pan.<br />I would like to find a good used one it is heavy<br />to ship.<br />do you know of a place to find one besides ebay?

Whatt66, you can get a new manifold for about $250 online and delivered I think its made by BARR.
