Rusty oil

Thanks for the additional input . It's been unusually warm this winter in Oregon so I'm going to get the engine out of winterized mode soon . Will running the engine out of the water with muffs be sufficient to test the condensation theory ? If so , how long should the running time be ? Thanks

Ayuh,.... Yer Test might rule out cracked cast iron parts,.......... or not,.....

Ya really need to run the motor up to temp, 'n then run fairly hard, workin', Laborin', to build motor oil heat to steam off the condensation,...

But,.... If ya run it, 'n the oil Level is stabil, it's probably not cracked cast iron,....
If the oil Level rises, ya, ya got problems,...

Hi guys , Ok got inspired and took off the exhaust manifold elbow and found it was rusted thru . Then removed the rest of the exhaust manifold , not rusted thru visibly but since it's from 1972 going to replace it and the elbow and exhaust hose . Think this will take care of the rusty oil issue . Oh yeah , exhaust hose shutters were gone also .
