Mine has the aluminum hardtop. It is getting new transom wood ,stringers and frames...and I will fill in the outdrive hole..Aluminum outboard bracket and a brand new Yamaha F200 four stroke. There was plenty of wood in this boat, so the ads were wrong. and it all rotted and the foam soaked up water..Nice hull though. It will be sweet when it is finished..Stringers and frames will give me the ability to put in a third fuel tank under the floor too. So, it will have the two 25 gallon side tanks and a 35 gallon under the floor.

Well I managed to get alot of the flooring up. The foam below was drenched. Pushing on it cause water to bubble up quite a bit.

You can see my progress below (link in sig)in a simple page I threw up. In the last pictures you can see where I've left a lip of wood around the edges. How exactly should I remove that? It's fiberglassed into the sides of the boat. Use an angle grinder and try to carefully cut through the glass to the wood and then "pull really hard" ?

Apparently my sig didnt show. The page is http://www.stormseeker.org/projects/Boat

I'll be drilling into the stringers to see what kinda condition they are in. One of the things I was wondering about is when I go to put all this back together, should I forget the foam and drill some holes between the stringers and the bilge to allow water to escape? From looking at the design though it looks liek water was never meant to get under the flooring. It was glued and screwed to the stringers.

Thanks for the pics..I am right there doing the same things on the same boat.

Hope you make it back smalldog. I dont see how they can be twins cause there is absolutely no space for me to put a 35 gal tank under the floor. your photo account is disabled so I cant see any pics.

Re: SabreCraft Restoration.

Hello all. It's been a few years... Kinda got into Sand Rails and Quads shortly after I started this project and spent way too much money on them. I could had a REALLY nice restored boat had I stuck with it back then. Well, the wife has been on me to get fishing and whatnot so back to this project. When I last left it the foam had to be removed and a new floor put in place. I am still debating on where to go with the flooring. I've done some searching on using the James Hardie siding you can get at lowes/home Depot. Most posts say that is it not a good structural flooring. However, take a look at what I have to work with below and I think it may not be a bad idea? I have large flat fiberglass only stringers that will be filled back again with closed cell foam. WHY Sabrecraft/Bellboy decided to use open cell foam when they originally built the boat is beyond me. Thus with the large stringers and foam filled cavities I dont think there will be an issue with structural integrity. I was also thinking of going over the top of it anyhow with a thin (1/4 inch) thick build up of seacast self leveling floor kit. The advantage it would seem is the flooring would never rot. I still need to gring off the old screw heads and clean up the top of the stringers from the old wood. A small amount of foam still needs to be removed as well.

Re: SabreCraft Restoration.

Well, a long weekend of work. It never goes the way you would expect. I was thinking I would have the floor finished. However a combination of thing prevented me from getting past halfway. I used more of the 3M 5200 then I expected so did not have enough to do the front half. Also, the 2 part expanding foam didn't go nearly as far as I expected as well, thus another reason to only go halfway. As you can see, I went with normal plywood instead of the siding material I was thinking about. Nobody commented on my post but I had seen enough other negative posts about using it I said why chance it. At this point, the back half of the boat is glassed in. Need to get more supplies and finish the front half. Then it's on to the engine and putting the stern drive back on and making sure it all works. A few pics...

Well... It was 90degree's out. I probably mixed it too hot with mkep considering the temperature outside. I got about 1/4 through the bucket before it kicked.

Glassing is about half done. The strips were eventually glassed into the sides for additional support and waterproofing.

Re: SabreCraft Restoration.

so, another year has gone by. but I haven't been as idle as I was in the past. Glassing the floor in in about 90% complete. I have also glassed in most of the side shelves that hold the fuel tanks and side panels. Current to do list is to finish glassing in the side shelves, get the new fuel tanks and install them. Finish glassing the flooring in the front of the boat. Replace a frozen control cable going to the stern drive and figure out what I am going to do to connect the exhaust manifolds to the exhaust tubes going to the stern drive.

Here are a few pics.004.jpg008.jpg009.jpg16.jpg

Almost 6 years between posts from the OP! We should have a "COMEBACK" award for those to mothball projects and then return to finish. Maybe RyanB can be the first winner if he makes it to a splash?

No offense at all RyanB...I understand how interests change and other things get in the way. Pretty cool that you are making a "COMEBACK" on this project. Nice boat.

None Taken at all JB93. :D

iSteelHead I'll check out your thread as soon as I can. Not sure what additional info you might be looking for. I think earlier in this thread we dug up an old advertisement showing a cutaway or something.

Was out fiberglassing today. Summer is closing and I need to take advantage of some of the weather. I had to wait on some things though until I replaced the control cable and put in the new fuel tanks. Well, fuel tanks are on the way and new control cable is on the way. Pics are below, I glassed in the rest of the flooring towards the bow and glassed in the supports for the side shelves that hold the fuel tanks. I've picked out the marine vynal I want to use for the side panels. Still have to order that. I think I can have this boat done by next summer to finally have some fun in it.

I am noticing I am not getting messages about my subscription to this thread. I better figure that out.

Re: SabreCraft Restoration.

Not a huge update, but the new control cable is installed. All appears to be working there. Received my new fuel tanks. Need to figure out what can be done as they do not fit quite like I expected. I'll try and take some pictures this weekend to show it. I have the Marine Vinyl ordered for the side panels. A bit more glassing to do for the seat supports and the engine cover supports and then I can put down the rhino liner.
