Only in "Kalifornia" something like that can happen, heck, someone could make a few sheckles on those lower units, props & engine covers on E Bay :)

The taxpayers in Ca should revolt over that one, those motors could have been sold and the money made could have been put into some other conservation measures. Waste Waste Waste!!!

It's always a rude shock to the "city dwellers" when they find out that their ideas of what's good for the world are not embraced by anyone other than their fellow "city dwellers." Environmental regulation almost always is well intentioned...but quite often it lacks common sense and it usually ends up, at some point, being a little ridiculous. Regulating outboards being the case in point.

Re: Sad Fate for these Two-Strokes (Pics Included)

My most recent experience of something as crazy in the UK was during the Foot and Mouth cattle disease in 2001.
I was allowed to launch my boat into the lake once it had been sprayed with disinfectant......but if I took it out left it on the trailer at the lake and wanted to launch it again I had to have it sprayed again: even if no travelling had been done?
My point at the time was that they weren't disinfecting me or my fishing gear, just the boat hull (they didn't do the engine "in case we damage it" ) but they were quite happy to spray disinfectant and charge the boaters for doing it.
When I asked if they had worked out what damage the disinfectant was doing to the lake and it's inhabitants they just shrugged.......

What a waste!
Those motors could have been put to good use by needy fishermen over here.

I don't think I have cried that much in a long time...The has to be the biggest waste of resources I have seen in awhile. Lets see, if the motors are melted down, the plants that melt them will consume massive energy that will pollute far worse than the motors ever would in their collective lifetime. It they are tossed in a landfill, it will take an eternity for nature to break them down, the list goes on and on. It can think of several people, including me, who would have put those things to good use. The beauty is, a person could get one dirt cheap, weld the hole, and rock on.....

This isn't commonly known by non-aviators...After the war those WWII airplanes were offered FREE to anyone who wanted them. That was long before demo started happening. My dad was going to take a free B24 but he couldn't afford the fuel to fly it back to Florida...I think he said it was $150! It took decades before those planes were valuable to anyone but it was too late. There are only two B24s known of today. One flying (Confederate Airforce)and one (Kermit Weeks Museum) that was found in S. America a few yrs ago. Both are in the USA now.

Is it true they don't allow teachers to correct kids homework with red pens in Californya ? Something about stigmatizing impressionable minds.

wildbill, in the UK we just had a lucky escape from a teacher who had wanted the word "failure" changed to "deferred success"

Guess I've been a "deferred success" all my life and never really knew it :D :D :D

Just as a matter of total hypothetical interest, how difficult would it be for a shop to weld those holes over?

The weld would not have much of a chance of holding on the block. But the lower units could probably get away with it.

It's stuff like that that pisses me off. I've spent who knows how much time and money trying to keep my 2 stroke motor together and running right, and these guys take an entire fleet of running motors and destroy them?! WTF?

If anything, they shoulda just dismantled them and sold the parts or the entire motors in a lot auction or something. Those environmentalists have no clue how much energy it takes to sort all the pieces, melt the metal down and otherwise dispose of all of it. Morons.

Well the People's Republic of Kalifornia has another one dealing with guns.

I am selling a MATCH RIFLE, aka Bolt action, Big shiny red white and blue iron sight match rifle that costs about $3000 to build from scratch.

The guy that wants to buy it has to go through these loopholes for the do-gooders, and it costs almost $200 to import it, PLUS sales tax on it, required by the FFL that imports it, so he will end up pay ing $400 for a rifle........

Would have been cheaper to have him drive up and take it back.......

Th ose engines up there are a complete waste of human life, some liberal tree hugger never thought this out, and while it's true they can improve upon the emissions and force people to clean up and upgrade (emissions testing?) their engines, they wo uld just as soon ban anything that makes life modern.

I see California like a pre-taliban Afghanistan sometime in the next 50 years......

They should import camel's and ban cars, cars kill more people in ONE year than all the soldiers that died in Vietnam (My respect given to these guys).

Makes no sense to me, grrr.

Sometimes I wonder what kind of country I will be leaving my children and grandchildren..Will I be leaving them a pristine enviroment that they will not be able to enjoy do to all the laws and regulations..Dont jump in that mude puddle sonnie boy youre germs may contaminate it..No No dont play in the water you might hurt the fish..No you may not make a fire and roast marshmellows trees got to live you know..Here build youre house from this new product that does not contain any wood or natural substance make it out of this,,However it will never burn or pollute or be naturally broken down..Enjoy youre freedom as it may be..Just ask the goverment thell tell you how great youre freedom is..Or will I be leaving them with the same country I grew up with and inhereted the one that said you can be what you want and enjoy what you want..And to all you who justify these restritive laws by saying I just want to leave my children a better earth,,Bull**** if you really want to leave them a better place leave them with the same freedoms we had and if somethings wrong then let them fix it we fixed the previous generations problems thats how we evolve as a species by learning and overcoming the challenges that we must face not the ones we dont have to..And if goverment is soo great we would have been a completly organic based ethanal ran country by now..And now the goverment pays farmers not to grow corn wonder why? Just think if they had started back in the 70s the middle east would just be another part of the world we wouldnt give a damn about now..Sorry just had to chime in
