I don't mean to sound like an ass, but what is so special about this case? Adults get drunk and disappear literally every day. He got drunk on his own...and probably wondered off somewhere he shouldn't have been or got in a fight.

Being a 21 year old drunk myself, I certainly wouldn't expect anybody other than my closest friends and family to worry if I got drunk and disappeared...

Disappeared for how long? Couple the disappearance with the other gone missing intoxicated men in that age range found DEAD in the river and there is more than a little reason for concern.

People are found dead in the river all the time. Yes, it's sad, but there is nothing special about that sort of news. Death is part of life and drunks who get in fights often die early. It might have been more shocking if he was 15, or had some type of disability...

ZmOz,that is the point, this happens all the time. This sort of thing happens every year in LaCrosse. The Milwuakee river runs right along a slew of bars here in Milwaukee, and tons of other rivers near bars and colleges. Heck the Wisconsin River runs a block away from UW-Stevens Point......I don't recall any deaths. Yes he got drunk, and it could very well be 100% his fault, but when this happens every year in the same place and doesnt happen in other similar places it raises red flags.

Re: Sad News For La Crosse, WI

The article says "Seven young men have died in the river since 1997" and "Five of those deaths were related to alcohol use". That doesn't raise any red flags for me at all. They found at least two or three bodies in the Willamette river where I boat this summer alone. Recently they found the body of one man spread out in several duffle bags in the Columbia river...everyday news as far as I'm concerned.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see young people die, but nothing is ever going to stop that from happening. A 22 year old friend of mine passed away in august, and I was very upset about it, but I don't expect any of you to care much about him.

We get 2 or 3 a year on the "Mighty Rogue River"... no red flags here, just misfortune.

Not to mention the Rogue, and even the entire state of Oregon, is a very low crime sort of area. I can't even imagine how many bodies they find every year in New York rivers...

River + populous area = floating bodies. It's almost a law of physics.

Re: Sad News For La Crosse, WI

It isn't just the La Crosse campus/area. And it isn't just young men.

A quick internet search revealed 19 drown students in and around La Crosse and the twin cities. And a dozen or two more along I-94, from the cities to southern Michigan. All since 1997 (9 years).

Almost everyone was in a crowded public place with friends, and then went missing in a few minutes.

Appears to be several investigations going on that are considering the possibility of a serial killer.

There is a statistical anomaly regarding LaCrosse. I don't know why, what, or who but I agree, there is something very strange going on there. I have to assume there is something going on here that isn't accidental or normal.

Young guys out having fun... feeling their oats... a little who slapped John, a bit of disorientation, and it's fish food time... kids, hard to live without them.

Well, there are estimated to be 100 serial killers loose in the US right? Maybe one of them is up there.
