Evel Knievel Dies at 69

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) -- Evel Knievel, the hard-living motorcycle daredevil whose exploits made him an international icon in the 1970s, died Friday. He was 69.

Knievel's death was confirmed by his granddaughter, Krysten Knievel. He had been in failing health for years, suffering from diabetes and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable condition that scarred his lungs.

Knievel had undergone a liver transplant in 1999 after nearly dying of hepatitis C, likely contracted through a blood transfusion after one of his bone-shattering spills.

Yes I have seen his documentary in the past, guess you would say a documentary and a movie about him. His sun still performs doesn't he? Sad to hear that he's no longer with us. He had allot of fans and even had his own toys made after him.

Now you got these guys on these shows like stunt junkies doing more dangerous stunts, some of these shows are hard to watch without turning your head away when the stunt is underway. RIP

Having missed a jump or two myself, I had a lot of respect for the man. RIP.

I hope I make it to 69 and I haven't broken all my bones like he did. Sometimes we forget just how good of shape he must have been in to do things like that. And, still live to 69. RIP

So did I but I think I saw him at the Coliseum more like 36-37 years ago and he actually did an indoor jump in the basement area there. I still remember his monologue to the crowd.

Jumped the River Styx - dressed in the red white and blue too I bet!

Sorry to see anyone go...... :(

Yes Bob, you're dating me now, didn't want to admit it, but maybe it was that long ago,,,lol. And yes, down in the basement, he made a quick practice run alongside the jump, then made the jump perfectly. Quite impressive, It was on a special Harley 750cc racing bike.

I was "hearing" this for the first time here on iboats and then oddly enough I also just heard it on the news . . . in Australia. They love all types of Motorsports here, and they made a pretty big deal about it. RIP :(

It is not how a man lives, but how he dies sometimes that is important. This time it was how he lived. If you have not kept up with Evil Knievel the last few years then you don't know the man.

With the world wide web it is easy to check out with a little effort.

He was a man of great faith. Surprised?

Check my statement out. It is a few clicks away.
