SAE 30 for a 1997 5.7 EFI? (Mercruiser)

I do not have a book on my engine but my old 86 5.7 carbed called for SAE30 - Is this correct for a 97 5.7 EFI (Mercruiser) as well? Anyone happen to know the # for the oil filter?

Can't go too wrong with it depending where you live. Any oil is better than no oil!!!

thinking more like 25W-40 merc oil

Somewhere in the early 90s Merc went from 30W to 25W40 for their 5.7. You won't go wrong with 30W but you should be able to get Merc's recommendation on their web site. West Marine stores have access to the info also. Their Sierra oil filter is the 18-7824.
