1982 Mercruiser 470 engine. My manual says use "SAE 40" oil, a straight-weight since I'm in a warm climate (over 50F temp. SW Fla). Also says optional 20w40 or 20w50 is possible but not preferable (Aslo hard to find). Strraight SAE 40 is not turning out to be very common, even at stores like West Marine. Any thoughts on best place to find it? Or does it really not matter much and I should just go with 25w-40 which is east to find.

Worst....I mean West Marine will order it for you. I use it all the time in a diesel and gas engines. I also sometimes buy from NAPA. My local stores always carry it.

Good Luck!

I buy Castrol GTX SAE 40 from Auto Zone. They only have it in 1qt containers. I buy it by the case when Castrol's on sale.

Hi Guys:

I check on my local Wal-Mart all the time and they usually have it for about $11 a litre.

Where to find it is totally up to you to find.
Doesn't matter if my auto parts stores, or walmart or anything else has it or not. If your's doesn't
you may have to ASK, it may not be out in plain sight.

Auto Zone did the trick.
