safe anchoring

has any body got the best way to anchor up safely ( on the irish sea ) from a small boat (18ft ) with out going out onto the bow, i have tried many ways. some are better than others, i am just hoping that over there in the US that there may be some way i have not thought of !

i have a cleat that can be reached from the cockpit. and two line guides on the bow, i deploy and retrive the anchor from the side, then use a boat hook to place the line in the line guides, and tie off to the cleat.

Use an anchormate and pulleys. Put the crank where it's safe and convenient.
