In the bilge area under my motor is a black sludge mess.
Will my automotive engine degreaser harm the fiberglass?
Thanks

Re: Safe Engine Degreasing

It probably won't (we used to use it on engine on Corvettes), but it probably won't deal with the greasy sludge either. Engine cleaner is supposed to be used on a warm engine; cold grease won't get "cut." Why not use a bilge cleaner/degreaser? It's safer and more likely to clean up the mess. I suggest you use the bilge cleaner and then throw in a few oil absorbant pads to catch the greasy mess. Then remove the pads and flush out the bilge with a hose. Please put a pail under the bilge drain to catch the oily mess so you don't pollute your ground. A final washing with dishwasher detergent and water should give you a clean bilge. Then find the oil leaks which created the mess in the first place! Good luck. Hy

There was some ancient thick oil up under there, I was looking at it while degreasing my hands with the white mechanics hand cleaner that is water soluable...Hmmmmmm....Dabbed some on a sponge and it went right through it!
