I need to start in safe mode.Which F key initiates this??????

I seem to have picked something up that restarts the computer every 1/2 hour and I want to do scans in safe mode.

Thanks In Advance.

Turn the computer off ( or click restart ) and push the F8 button repeatedly.

Choose Safe Mode and then pay attention to the wording. You will either pick YES or NO to choose an earlier date. Pick a date and then it should help.

I did that from memory, I hope I didn't leave any info out.

You could also be overheating. Check for dust buildup on the fans. If it is caked on pretty bad that may be your issue. It is fairly simple to pull the cover, disconnect the power cord, keep one hand on the metal frame of the box, and use a vacuum to remove all of the dust.

Be very careful, if you don't make sure you are grounded to the frame you risk building up a static charge and frying your boards.

Re: Safe Mode Startup

I vote for overheating and/or a crack in a motherboard circuit. I had two identical PC's. One was a 400 mhz and the other I upgraded to a 750 mhz. (max limit of the motherboard. In fact there were no 750's yet when I bought the MBs.)

The upgraded one shortly after began to do just that. I never did research it thoroughly but assumed it was a problem caused by the increased heat of the 750 cpu. On the other hand, that 400 stays on 24/7 and has never had a hiccup.
