In the process of a complete restore on my 77 searay. Wondering if any side effects to gelcoating the bilge area and engine compartment. Going with a light grey color.

Sea ray does it from the factory, and I did it in my restoration. Cleans up nice.

Personally, I would roll on some epoxy for waterproofing and use a bilge paint. Less sanding and holds up to chemicals very well; looks good as well. Either way works.

2 things off the top of my head ( and it hurts because I was at a good friends BD party last night ;) ) .

1. gel can crack if left too thick.
2. Brushing gel for a bilge is a pain .. seems like you just cant 1 coat it. It takes time and multiple brushing coats + wax.

I would AWL GRIP it myself. Kinda pricy..but well worth it. Its thin and covers very well.

No matter which way you go please wear a resporator.

Very true YD. I rolled all mine and did unwaxed for two coats, and then waxed for one. So three thin coats to avoid the cracking.
