I have a 19' Grady Tourney. If you arent familiar with the seating layout its a typical bow rider layout. Is it safer for a passenger to sit up front or in the jumpseats on either side of the outboard at the transom? I was wondering if riding in the can suddenly toss you like a catapult. I guess im refering to running into a large wake.

Re: Safest place to sit

Welcome aboard Old Man,

Good question that you asked. I would feel safer riding in the rear of the boat instead of the bow in rough water. It could be possible to be thrown out if you wasn't holding on. I know the ride in the bow during rough water is as bad as driving down a road full of pot holes.

You must keep in mind that if you are the one operating the boat, you are responsible for those onboard as well as your wake. You must operate your boat according to conditions of the weather and water.

If someone does get ejected from the boat, reguardless of the cause, the captain is responsible.

Keep on posting and follow the rules of the water so everyone can enjoy themselves.

You have come to the right place for help..Welcome aboard again. :D

I would think that it would be safer and less rough inside the boat cockpit than in the bow.

The bow is definately the most dangerous place in rough water.

If running in such conditions and it makes you feel better pull them off the seats and set them on the floor. it's your vessel and your the captian, you make the call. Remember it's your call and if they don't like it leave them on shore next time. Your not out there to accomidate everyones wishes...Your job is to assure there safe return to shore. Running at something other than full throttle may also be an option.

At least in my boat the stern seats are the smoothest ride. It's like the fulcrum point of a lever. I figure that would also be the safest.
