Safety Switch Problem. Need Help

I did some searching and reading on here and it sounds like my safety switch. I have a 16' Logic center console with a Evinrude 50 4 stroke. I never use my lanyard and forgot all about it this year. Today I hit a decent size wave and ten seconds afterwards the motor cut off and would not start. I crawled under the console and found this little block box about 1" x 1" with a 1" long strip of metal that, if pushed makes contact with a little switch. I played with it and noticed that it would kill my connection when trying to start the boat. It has two yellow wires running to it. I assume that this is the kill switch. I found where it fell from and placed it back and made it back home. Question is can I cut the two yellow wires, connect them together to bypass the little black box to avoid this again?

Thank You

Why not send a few bucks and install a new kill switch?

Re: Safety Switch Problem. Need Help

Last week a midwest boater with kids age 1, 3, and 5 (the one year old was not even his kid) were boating when the one-year old went overboard. The driver reached over to pluck the poor little guy out of the water and he himself was jerked out of the boat which was now under power with a three and five year old on board. The five year old turned the key off but not before the driver and kid were hit by the prop. Now then -- does a functional kill switch lanyard mean anything to you?
