Hi
here in Israel, there is a dealer of a turkish made ships named safter.
What I was amazed of is their light weight! a 4.5Meter (about 15 feet) sandal boat weights only 220 kgs
SAFTER MARINE

the boat of this size can take up to 15 hp. its performance seems to be good:

with this weight and small engine i find such boat has 2 advantages:
1-very easy to trail and get to the water-specially when no good spots are here
2-very economic boat for 2-3 persons with such small engine.

the purpose for me is fishing.

what would be interesting is how could such boat be that light and would this be on the account of stability or lack of fiber sheets? could such boat be strong enough to get in saltwater and deal with waves?

will love to get your opinion about that. I will have a trial in water with it as well.
best regards

Hello.
THe boat appears to be very nice. Very spacious.

In the video, they state that it is fully laminated. But, they do not say what materials are laminated. Is it plastic, pvc, or fiberglass?

It does appear to sit very high in the water, and be very buoyant. I kind of bobs around due to the light weight.

While I think it will handle a choppy sea, I think it will be a rough and bouncy ride, so you may need to slow down in rough seas.

Agree on the rough ride but you could mitigate some of that by how you drive the boat. If in big water, use an angled approach to oncoming waves such that you are maybe 45 degrees to the waves or maybe less...depends on the circumstances. In sailing it's called a TACK. You do not travel in a straight line, rather a zig-zag. You tack for awhile and when a reasonable looking wave comes along, you reverse direction as quickly as you can (safely) and tack the other way. Continue doing this till you get home. Takes longer and consumes more gas but it works.

Boston Whaler (like from Boston Massachusetts, USA) made a career out of plastic/foam/plastic. Light and tough; unsinkable. Been around for as long as I can remember and if their name is Boston and ride the N. Atlantic, they have to be tough. Google them

thanks Mark
If I had the money I would definitely go on my dream-The BOSTON WHALER! fond of this boat.
If shafter would reach 20% of B.W quality I would be 90% happy, as it's price is 20% of B.W :)

I think a test with full gear and at least 2 people will indicate what speed is possible.
I figure empty the motor may make about 20 mph about 33 km.
While the boat is light for the size a 15hp would usually appear on a boat less than 230 lbs.
Roughly 1/2 the weight.I think the all up weight will be close to 1200 lbs.545 kg.
Then there is a question of the construction. If its incapsulated foam over time if the hull is compromised
these can absorb water and get very heavy. Not necessarily from the bottom but from cracks in the interior of the hull.
I was impressed how well it planed with 2 men at the stern.

Just curious about the cost of the boat as well as the tax as I know just about everything, including sand in Israel is expensive.

the boat here costs about 4800$ for the 4.6 meter and 5350$ for the 4.8 meter. that is for the basic boat with no extras. the price is the dealer price here in Israel so it is final price and already includes taxes.
