I bought a new 15 HP Sail outboard off of Ebay that ran for about a month then a problem with the kill switch appeared and then the motor without warning started to run on one cylinder and now it will not even start.I phones Sail up and asked when do I take it for service and they said they didn't have anyone in my area but they would send me some parts for me to fix what they thought was the problem.I said a mechanic should be doing the work on a new motor and would try to find someone.Every place I tried never even heard of Sail and said they would not work on it,which is what I told Sail, and that I wanted my money back or a replacement motor

Boy thats a shame. You really need to do your home work when buying any motor. My first priority would be a stocking, servicing dealer within reasonable distance. Then I think I would ask around see if anyone had any feedback.
Unfortunately it appears that the Sails selling point is price. A 2 year warantee doesn't mean much if there is no one to work on it.
Good luck hope you can get your motor running.

What kind of motor? Doesn't matter who sold it, any dealer of that motor brand is required by franchise contract to do warranty service on it. That doesn't necessarily require them to put you on the fast track, however. Most dealers will service their own customers first. (I never heard of them either and I've been doing this for thirty years.)

Re: Sail Outboards customer service

I used their dealer search to locate a dealer in my zip code. No results
So I searched for a dealer in Florida. No results
So I searched for a dealer in United States. No results.

Dang if I'd buy a motor from them.

A real crap shoot.Apparently it is a Yamaha clone as they state it uses Yamaha style parts but Sail charge 1/2 as much for theirs.
Didn't Harley win a suit against cloning their motor style?

eBay is the only place I've seen them. Well, there and here in the archives from people wondering where/how to get them fixed since they all eventually need repairs.

Sorry about your luck.

There are no service dealers in the U.S. as they are not legal to sell or buy in the U.S. If you purchased it off of eBay file a complaint with them that the product was not legal to ship here.
