Re: sailboat/speedboat

that would almost be my ideal dream boat..... it's like the james bond card that goes from land to submarine! :) Affordable too. Doesn't look like the motor is included in that price, I don't quite get how a 26 foot boat can be pulled by a "standard vehicle" they do not list the weight anywhere I can see..

Very nice though, I would definitely want to own something like this, especially with todays gas prices, you can kill 2 birds with one stone!

exactly.

they top out at about 20 MPH...which isn't too bad I guess.

they also make a aluminum flat bottom boat that is it's own trailer, and can load a quad........and then can turn back into a trailer, and have the quad pull it. it can hold up to 1500 lbs, and up to a 30 horse engine.

Re: sailboat/speedboat

it is nothing more than a center board 26' sailboat, with a beefed up transon to handle the bigger motor. most 26' ft sail boats are weighted keel boats, rather than center board.

At the risk of hurting anybodys feelings :D

While they do sail they dont do it very well compared to a pure sailboat and get in trouble pretty easy when the wind kicks up which makes the BIG motor a good thing

just my point. not enough weight, for all that sail. there again, as with all boats, it is knowing what your boat will and will not do.

They are a water ballested sail boat. If you want a combo boat, then it's great. If you really want a sail boat but like big motor you might be disappointed. And you aren't going to really water ski behind it, I don't care what the ad says. Tubes MAYBE.

All that said, I way prefer sailing, but the kids hate it. So, I would really want a sail boat but like the big motor, and I'd LOVE to have that boat. I almost bought the previous version (26X). It sells very well and there are lots of satisfied owners. Just remember, it is not the best sail boat in that size, and if I remember correctly it weighs in at over 2000 lbs (without water ballest) and only has a 60hp motor.

I'd love to have one. :D

BTW, I thought those were made in Southern California. At least the 26X was...

I have been into sailing most of my life. about 10 years ago, I had the opportunity to sail on one, if you want to call it that..IMO, unless they have changed something in 10 years, it won't do either function very well...

Yeah, these are what Kiwi Phil is importing used into Australia. I've found one for him, but he is maxed out right now. You may recall the pics of him with a crane lifting them off the transport. They've been around for a while and do what they are supposed to do.

What is intriguing to me, is why doesn't somone build a simple lightweight cruiser like that? Easy to tow, easy on fuel, roomy below, 30 MPH if I recall correctly. Skip the sailing part and you eliminate most of the criticism above . . . ;)

Actually, you're looking at a top speed of more like 20, and that's lightly loaded. Fully loaded and it will be lower (how much I don't know). But I do believe that many 26X's were bought by people who never put the mast up.

Did you see the Float trailers? I have been thinking of the same thing. but for different reasons. I had actually sketched out some rough plans of the same boat. My wife has been in and out of a wheelchair for the past 2 years and couldn't get into our boat, so i was thinking of a way to get her out on the lake. it would also be great for older people who would have a hard time climbing on docks.

I think a previous poster was right. I don't think these are built near me, just sold by the same company that makes the trailer/boat, which is near me.

at least I think they make them, maybe they just sell both boats........lol.

I'm thinking this is a great boat for me, i'm just getting into sailing, but finding a slip is next to impossible around here. Also I have a 5 year old and a 1 year old, and my girlfriend has 2 boys about to become teenagers. They love tubing, and it's maybe not a good time to give up the runabout. I also love that you can beach this boat as there are campgrounds I go to that you can only get to by boat. I ususally bring tents, but now I can just go to shore..build a fire, and at bed time, go back on the boat.

Like an enduro motorbike though (which I've owned), anything thats designed to do 2 things, doesn't do either very well. but it is something to think about.
