I have salvaged a 20-year old fibreglass sailing dinghy - 18', hull solid, but all paint in lousy condition (cracked, peeling) and fibreglass repairs needed. So I am taking it back to the raw fibreglass. My question is: What should I paint the hull with? The boat will be trailered...I was thinking of the Awlgrip 2-part urethane, but got spooked when it said "not to be used below the waterline". Any recommendations for occasional use dinghy bottom paint would be appreciated.....

tx

Re: Sailing Dinghy Bottom Paint

If you have your heart set on it, Awl-grip is fine for use below the waterline on a trailerd boat.. Just don't leave it in the water for more than a day or two, maybe a little longer...

I would use something a little more user friendly like interlux one part polyurethane and pettit easypoxy.. Any of these can be used below the waterline for a trailerboat..

Whatever you decide to use, use the complete recomended system/same brand of products..

Who am I kidding.. I paint my boats with Rustoleum.. :p
