salt vs fresh

I am thinking about buying a 03 center console. Has twin Yamaha 115/4strokes. Mainly used in salt water at trolling speed & has approx. 360 hrs.
Owners states engines have been flushed etc after every use. I plan on using the boat only in fresh water. My question: should I stay away because of prior salt water use?

Re: salt vs fresh

For only 360 hrs. I would not be concerned. Just have it checked out by a local boat service tech. If you're really serious about buying the rig it will pay you to have an experience tech check it and should give you peace of mind knowing it checked out ok. Have the boat checked as well while youre at it. The boat's transom and overall structure should be takened into account.
The owner should be willing for you to have a service tech look at it unless he has sommething to hide. Good luck

BTW, My 86 115 I've had since new has over a couple thousand hours of salt water usage and is still going

Re: salt vs fresh

Everthing else being equal, a fresh water engine is always better. Unfortunately, everything else is rarely equal. I have a 1987 70hp Yamaha that has extensive salt water usage and it is stiill a stong runner. I would not hesitate to buy this boat and engines if they pass inspection. Think of it this way; you would be saving these engines from a life of salt water use.
