Salt water woes!

I was working today in my 1975 70 hp motor getting the carbs out for a rebuilt and also the water pump. Carbs went out ok, but the lower unit!!! Sweet Lord! That salt water can mess anything. It reminded me a post by another member where his mechanic would not work in his motor because it was used in salt water. Those bolts were not about to come out easy. The scary part is that you don?t know if what you are doing is messing the thread or actually taking the bolt out. All bolts are out but except of one that for whatever reason, the wrench that I used for the other 3 wont fit in this one. I tried to use a socket but there is not enough clearance for the ratchet. I will have to buy a cheapo 14mm socket and cut it in half or so in order to get the clearance I need.
Thanks for listening!

Here's some helpful tools;
Patience
Apply Liquid wrench for three days
Apply heat
Use impact wrench, adjust torque to size of bolt.

Yep, thats the ticket...but easy on the impact, and the LAST thing ya need to do is apply constant pressure with a wrench/socket..twist the heads right off...

Do you have access to an air hammer, if so use a blunt punch to drive strait onto the head of the fastener. Most time this will losen the corrosion. Also if you're gonna cut down a socket to fit in there, I reccomend a quality socket, cheapos will break and mess up the bolt head. I only modify Craftman or Snap-on tools for jobs like that.

Will they loan me a Patience at advance? I need that one for the kids too! LOl!

Thanks guys, I have been considering getting me a compressor and an impact tool for quite some time. Not that it would help this time as I dont have space for a socket and rachet much less for an impact tool. Hoever, they are handy!

Thanks for the advice. It will be followed!

The 5/16 bolt under the tab did not made it. Lower unit is out... Will have to pull that one out with the help of my oxyacetilene torch...
