Salt water?

Is there anything I should do prior to putting my freshwater merc is the ocean for a day. I don't want to get in the habit of running in salt water but wouldlike to fish the inside bay in San Diego for the day. Will it hurt anything?
Seems to me there is a reason Merc makes salt water and fresh water motors.

It will be fine flush the engine and spray everything down including your trailer(if launched in salt)...

Try to spray some fresh water inside the tubes of the trailer. You do not want salt staying in there between launches. You might spray the powerhead with fresh water as well.

The difference between freshwater and saltwater motors varies by manufacturer and year. I would think the advertising is more aggressive than the actual differences in motor dseign and parts.
