We just bought our first boat from TX and now its up in MO where we live. Boat is solid but the saltwater has corroded the hull. Its like it has a crusty layer all over the boat. We thought about using our power washer on the outsde of the boat, but didn't know if that would be wise or not. We need help getting the boat in good working order. Were not afraid of work, or elbow grease to get the job done.

I am putting a pic of the steering column and you can see the boat. Parts of the boat you can see it was brown with glitter flecks in paint. What can we do to get the saltwater grime off the hull. We do have an electric buffer but again I don't want to do anymore damage by pushing the salt/dirt further into the paint. You can see large bubbles, and when you rub on surface, parts of clear coat just flake off.

Again its our first project, and we want to make the boat safe, and solid for future use. What products are best, and easy for a beginner to use.

Thanks so much for any help or suggestions to prepare our boat for a long life of fishing on our local lakes.

I don't think saltwater had much to do with that. I think it's the classic case of metal flake amplifying the UV and burning the heck out of the clear.

That finish is done and I wouldnt' waste my time trying to buff it out. I'd sand it down and paint it.

Some how my earlier post got deleted but I think you're biting off a huge chunk there, that thing is beat. Just going by the one pic I think you may be looking at a lot of ripping out and redoing before you ever get to paint.
