Sand in the cooling system

I have a 4.3 GL volvo penta. I was winterizing this weekend. When I opened up one of the drains the water came shooting out with a good amount of sand in it. This is after running the engine on the muffs for about 15 minutes. Is this a problem? If so what should I do?

Depending on where you go boating, They'll get totally Plugged ....... Then you have to poke a nail or something into them to drain them.....<br />I have a SSteel Deck Screw laying on my intake manifold, Just for that Reason......
