i plan on painting my boat and i stared sanding it but it is taking a while and turning into a long drawn out process. is sanding this boat really something that needs to be done or could i spray over it with primer then paint? you can see in one of the pictures the line where i stopped sanding, the pic of the transom is where i got a little crazy with some 5200 when i replaced the transom i plan to sand that off and go back over with gluvit. also if any one has any good ideas for putting a deck in on the front im interested in ideas for that as well.
thanks

As far as the sanding goes, it depends on what you're shooting for. If you want a showroom finish then keep sanding. If you just want it to look good from 10 feet away then stop. Make sure to wash it down with 50/50 vinegar and water. Dry it off then prime it with SELF ETCHING Primer. A Light coat is all that's needed. What Paint are you going to use? What ever it is make sure to contact them and follow their directions EXACTLY. Use the Primer and application they recommend without EXCEPTION. Do this and your paint will last. Don't and it Won't.

Your deck should be easy since you already have those ledges. Use exterior grade plywood. Coat it with Resin and mat. Attach with Stainless screws Cover with turf or carpet and your good to go. YOu could even cut out openings for storage or livewells.

ok thanks i may keep sanding just to ruff it up a little ive heard it helps the paint stick a little better, im not sure exactly what type of paint it is but its made by parker's just for aluminum boats. all that im shooting for is a decent camo job for a duck hunting boat. and on the deck i wasn't sure if i wanted to make it as high as those ledges because of it being such a narrow boat i didnt know how top heavy it would become expecially with working a foot powered trolling motor. what is self etching primer?
