I'd Pull out the hair on my head if I still had any.... I just replaced the thermo + bypass after a mild overheat . I've got a J50ELCSR (1980) and now the pee hole stopped working . From checking the search I'd guess it might be blocked . w.p. is new , but double checked to be it 's ok.
Just to be sure ; this motor should pee 24-7 , Is there any avenue I need to check that I over looked ? , Is there something in the ts/bypass i could have mussed up:redface:?

First thing to check...is it running hot?? If it is ,drop lower and fit water tube with garden hose and push water up the tube. You could have a bad water tube grommet etc. You should run a piece if weed wacker line up the tell tale line to check for obstructions too.

blow real hard into the pee hole........ Use a can of compressed air (like what you use on your keyboard)....... give it a good blow while it's running....see if that helps.

Yes larkey that was the first thing i checked , all OK ; xcusme I shut down before I went hot , I'll have to clear the lines to see if thats the problem . Flabum I did blow inthe hole when waters off and felt no resistance but when the water is turned on at the muffs its a no-go.

Re: sanity check

A couple weeks ago I went through the same thing, changed impeller and Tstat and it wouldn't pump on muffs.

Turned out to be the muffs, got it on the water and peed harder than ever but it is really hard to get it to in the drive.

So if you know for sure the impeller is good stick it the water and see what it does, the pump on an outboard isn't self priming, it needs to be completely submerged to pump.

Re: sanity check

The first thing I would check is to see if the engine is getting hot. This will tell you how much of he system you need to look at. If the engine does indeed get hot then you need to start over at the water pick ups and work up.
If the engine does not get hot then you just need to look at the discharge side of the cooling system after the powerhead is done with the water to find the problem with the tell tale.
