I just picked up a 1958/59 (?) Flying Scott 60hp motor... needs some work, although it appears from the spare parts that came with it that someone most likely replaced the impellers. Is it worth trying to restore or better to part out? i will try to post some pictures soon

Depends on how much time and money you want to invest in it, and the availability of parts.

thats my biggest concern... theres a lot that will need to be reworked or replaced. The motor is missing the locking arms for the cowl, everything else could probably be sourced...i also suspect the motor had some saltwater exposure due to the level of corrosion. I don't know where i could find replacement coils...
based on the model number, it appears to be a 1958 model, although there doesnt appear to be an electric fuel pump (that i can find yet) although that may have been removed by a previous owner...

I'd say you just answered your question.
"Is it worth trying to restore or better to part out?"

except for new EFI motors, there never was an electric fuel pump. they are pulse operated for safety

Id restore it all day. Probably run like a champ but Id first check compression to see if its an anchor or boat motor. Coils will be the easiest and it looks like the fuel pump is below the starter. I know some had electric pumps.

well i will leave it covered until i finish up my 1960 Scott 40HP restoration...then see if how i feel about it. I was reading that the 1958 had an additional remote electric fuel pump but i think the one on this motor was replaced as there is a box of spare parts that came with it and an old fuel pump was in there

They never had electric fuel pumps. They are listed in the service manual but that was around the time McCulloch bought them. I believe they nixed the electric pump. I have an early 58 that still has Scott Atwater on the hood and has a pulse pump like yours. The hood latches break because people lay them on their sides with the latch open. Your pump is under the starter.
