Hi all! Name's Colin, and I live in a small coastal town in BC just north of Vancouver. Found this forum a few days ago & been reading alot of good info! Wish I had found this place about 2 yrs ago! That was when I started 'Project Lazarus'. d
I was 'given' a boat by family friends that had been sitting in a barn (literally!) for about 12 yrs. It was originally parked because of a leaking fuel tank that was built in under the floor. Well, life got in the way for a few yrs-you know how that goes!- and then about 6 yrs ago the owner had a stroke and is no longer able to do the work. So he made me an offer I couldn't refuse- I take the boat home, do all the work to get it running again, HE buys all the parts
d
and I get to keep the boat here and he can use it whenever he wants. Sweet deal for a broke-a** guy like me!
About the boat- it's an 18.5' Cal-Glass with V hull. Power is (don't laugh!) a 1975 OMC 175 stringer. (Ford 302 block)
I have done everything on it myself. Here's what it's taken to get it seaworthy again:
Engine dry-seized- got it turning again
Cut out floor, remove tank & weld in new bottom
Clean up and re-wire sending unit
Re-install tank and fiberglass floor with access for sending unit (none before!)
Rebuilt the carb-holly 2v
Rebuilt the trim motor
Re-make all electrical connections on motor/accessories
Installed kicker bracket
Replaced:
-asstd. wires as necesary
-coil
-cap/rotor/points/cond
-plug wires & plugs
-ballast resistor
-fuel filter & canister
-oil & filter
-tilt motor
-tilt clutch plates
-tilt soleniod
-starter soleniod
-fuel & coolant hoses
-transom boot
-drive belt
-thermostat
-starboard exh. elbow
-rubber manifold couplings
I think that's about it! Whew! This was done over about a 2 yr period as time (and parts!) allowed. I started calling it 'project Lazarus' after I got the engine running again since it was brought back from the dead! d
Been out 3 times so far and it purrrrrrs! Will do 42mph @ WOT with 4 people aboard according to the speedo. Temp hovers between 160-170 (you can watch the t-stat open & close!) oil pressure a steady 50psi at cruise. Only thing not reading right is the tach- look for post on that in the near future!
So that's me! Hope to share my (limited) experience & info with other Oh My Christ owners.d
