I am looking at some 2001 Grand Cherokee Limited's with the 4.0 I6 and fully loaded with a range of mileage from 45k to 55k. The price is 11k. I was wondering what you thought of this price and vehicle. Would appreciate any input..

Re: SBN are you here?

The price sounds about right for the year.
I think around 13K is average for the 4.0L version.
That is where I stop.
I don't like the 4.0 in the GC body.
It is fine in the regular Cherokee, but IMO, the GC is just a little heavy for the engine.
If you can, see if you can find you one with a v-8 in it. The price won't or shouldn't be that much difference and you will feel a lot better with yourself for getting one.

I have 2 regular Cherokee with the 4.0 in them and love them, but I just don't like it in the GC body.
I tried one out and it was just like daylight and dark in the difference.

Hope this helps some.

Is the difference in the weight and wheelbase on the Cherokee and Grand the same proportionately as the weight and wheelbase difference in the Caravan, Grand Caravan?

Re: SBN are you here?

Thanks for the comeback.
.
In looking on the net I have seen where there is a 4.7L V8 and a 5.2L V8. If memory serves me right (sometimes I doube it) the 4.7 is a ford engine and the 5.2 is the Dodge 318. Does that sound about right?

No, the 4.7 is a MOPAR engine. It is similar to the 4.6 Ford in that it has a single OH Cam.

I have driven a GC with the 4.7 V8 and found the performance excellent. I have not driven a GC with the 4.0 I6, but it performs well in the smaller, lighter Jeeps.

See, I said my memory might not be right, that 4.7 I was thinking was actually a 4.6... :D
.
I appreciate the info, it really helps.

RN, the new GC I have has the 4.7 in it and it will really surprise you at the power it has.

Like has been said, the 4.0's were/are great engines for the Wrangler crowd, but not in the GC body, IMO.

RetNav,

I have a 97 GC with the 4.0 in it. While they have different bodies the differences in weight is aroung 250 Lb, which is what - the weight of one person?

Curb Weight
------------
2001: 4031 lbs
1997: 3785 lbs

What I am getting at is I think you need to decide what you are going to do with this Jeep. Yeah, it's no speed demon - but fer cripes sake, its a Jeep, not a GTO. My '97 averages around 18 MPG on each tank. Not only that, but the 4.0 I6 is legendary. Its been around for many years and has a history of being a reliable motor with a tendency to exceed 300K miles or more with proper maintenence.

So, if you are planning on towing a big boat with it.. yeah, find a V8.

If you are just using it to bounce around town, the motor is difficult to pass up.

Sean
