read in the stickys that drive needs to be removed due to oil reservior, and pressure test should be without oil? Shop has the drive attached full of oil and left it overnight to look for drop in prsssure.

Recently had upper leg replaced due to oil leaking and destroyed upper gears. they said lower was ok. after sitting overnight and no drop, but plug has shards of metal. Tech says this is bc of grinding in of new gears. I call bs

after the upper leg was replaced they forgot to close the vent cap after they filled it with oil. Checked leg oil before i went out and it was fine. Next daybefore i went oil, checked the leg and milky oil spewing from what appeared to be the bolt above the prop. This is right under vent cap i was told.

Should i take it to another shop and have them take apart the leg and pressure test properly as well as look for damage from milky oil?

1. The SX drive doesn't have a reservoir. so when searching for information make sure you are looking at the proper drive.

2. Testing with the drive full of oil is a waste of time, the gear lube would seal most small leaks.

3. If the gears in the upper were damaged, all that metal circulates into the lower unit. Did they dissassemble the lower and inspect ??? I doubt it.

4. Has the drive been removed to check for water in the bellows?

The lower was disassembled and inspected and found to be okay. Bellows were supposedly inspected when upper was replaced 2 wks ago. Shop owner is coming w me on a water test now. Will post an update after.

So the leg held 15 psi for 4 days, but when pressure was lowered to 6 psi it dropped within 2 hours down to 1. Soapy water on the drive still has not revealed the leak. They suspect the prop shaft seal, but that should have been replaced when the lower was disassembled for inspection? They are going to submerge it in water and try to find it that way.

Any other ideas or ways to figure out where the leak is?
