Re: Scam????

Thanks, nice to know.
In Florida it is recommended that the seller fill out and return one of these to the DMV upon sale.

I would think other states recommend the same.

On the boat in question, did the first seller have it registered?
If yes you can probaly see what the number was via the shiney-like-new surface where the letters were before being removed.

Re: Scam????

I was working a deal through a reputable online site on a late model Doral that was supposed to be in upstate NY. Exchanged several emails with the guy. Should have known better when he listed the boat as having "low miles". I tried to schedule to drive up and see it over the weekend. Then he tells me the boat was shipped to Minnesota. I say, "No problem. I have a buddy who was in the Navy and is now an attourney with the DA's office in Minneapolis. I'll have him come by and take a look." Interestingly enough, no response...

Re: Scam????

Great idea, never would have thought about that.

My bad, I did forget to ask him if he had title in hand.
I'm an honest seller and I wouldnt go to the DMV. My time is valuable. I say buy it or someone else will.

Re: Scam????

Guy has provided the VIN, Trailer VIN, The state registration number (although again not on the side of the boat) and the Boat engine serial number. Seems legit.

Is there any way you can check to make sure the registration number he gave you goes with the HIN (hull ID number). Georgia has an online database where you could see that, don't know what other states are doing. As long as that matches up, and the HIN he gave you is actually the one on the boat in question it's sounding more and more legitimate.

Re: Scam????

Is it possible he just removed the numbers from the boat. I've never sold a boat but I've sold some cars. I always remove the license plate before I sell it. I think I'd do the same with the registration numbers if I was going to sell my boat.

Re: Scam????

Don't know about other states but the registration number stays with the boat in Florida. Once it's been registered the number remains as it is also included with the title information.

Registration number stays with the boat in New York also. I think it's the same in every state.
