I picked up an scanoe which came with a 2hp evinrude.I haven't tried it yet, but my concern is it is a mite too small an outboard for use on a slow river.I would have preferred a 4 or 5 hp, but the price was right.I can always upgrade if neccesary.<br /> Has anybody had any experiance/ comments with this combination ?

Try it in the river. You'll know real quick if the current is too much.

I push a 5500 pound sailboat through currents and tides with a 3.5 hp. I think you have enough power.

I've paddled a Scanoe, but not had one under power. They move through the water with ease, and I'm sure you will be surprised what that little 2 will do. Have fun!

I use a 50 lb. electric motor on a Scanoe and it works fine. It will run up stream just fine.
